Going on a snowy mountain may be a perfect year end activity but I thought there must be something else. So off to Izu Peninsula we go. This prefecture is more of a Summer getaway but some locals also go there to enjoy hot spring and a warmer Winter.
Since it's a little far from Tokyo, we opted to stay overnight around Ito Station. Here's the hotel we booked Kameya Rakan. It's ryokan, a Japanese-style hotel. I highly recommend this place since it's by the bay. It also has public and private onsen or hot spring.
THE NEXT DAY
From Ito Station we took a bus going to Izu Shaboten Zoo. The bus ride is about 40 minutes up the mountains and stops just right in front of the zoo. The view going there is just amazing. We were so blessed to have seen a double rainbow along the way.😍
To see the zoo's map check this link: https://izushaboten.com/lang/ Other important information is also on their website.
As soon as you arrive, the zoo staff will hand you a timetable for the bus service so you should not worry about your way back to Ito Station.
AT THE ZOO
It was such a huge place! It is located uphill so it was so windy on that day. Here are the photos I took inside the zoo. https://kapetkesophotos.blogspot.com/2021/01/izu-shaboten-zoo.html
There is an animal show which schedule is always subject to change. Another major attraction in this zoo is the Cactus Greenhouse. They have 1,500 variety of cacti from all over the world. After walking through the greenhouses, you can take home some cactus at a price. The good thing is you get to choose which variety you want. So go straight to the Cactus Workshop before exiting the zoo.
Of course, I needed some to take at home. 😉 |
