For somebody who craves for Filipino food and snacks from time to time, here are the stores I frequent to. I can only share a limited perspective but solely based on my experiences. Read on!
Filipino Stores
1. Asia Yaosho (Kabukicho, Shinjuku)
While they mostly have Filipino products, they also sell Thai goods. I think their prices are a little lower than the other Filipino stores I've tried. However, they have limited stocks and they often run out of items that I usually need, like Bearbrand. 😁

2. Ameyoko Center Underground Marekt (Ueno)
This market is heaven for Southeast Asians. They have a lot of varieties, dry goods, frozen meat, and even fresh seafood. There are also two Filipino stores in the area. They sell more items than Asia Yaosho but they are a bit pricey.

3. Mega Don Quijote (Shibuya)
On the 2nd floor, you can find the international section that includes a few selection of Filipino products, mostly snacks. Prices are similar to Ameyoko stores. As I said, the items are limited but if you just need at least "Boy Bawang" to satisfy that craving then you won't be disappointed.
4. Akabane Bussan
If you want to order online, I recommend Akabane Bussan. They can deliver the products in 2-3 days if you are within Tokyo. Since they have to separate dry goods and frozen meat, you have to pay extra to keep the meat at least cold during delivery. Prices are lower than Ameyoko stores. Also, they have more varieties.
Filipino Restaurants
For casual eating, New Nanay's is a good place. It isn't really spacious so when I went there around noon, it was cramped - really Filipino carenderia style. It's all you can eat anyway! I also got to order halo-halo. The staff were all nice too. The food is tasty but I guess my mother cooks the same menu differently. I'm also from Cebu so I think something is missing. 😅

I love the spring rolls! |
2. Ihawan (Kabukicho, Shinjuku)
We went there to celebrate our workmate's birthday. It has a karaoke and a small stage. Apparently, they hold a lot of parties and events so it's often crowded. It's all you can eat! The atmosphere is so Filipino! Eat, drink, laugh, and karaoke! The food tastes good too!
I miss Sheena. 😥 |
That's all for now. If I get to visit other Filipino stores and restaurants then I'll update this post. 💪
