Starting the Year in Gunma

Why Gunma? A friend invited us to come over and do what the Japanese do on January 1st and 2nd! So here's what we did there. 🙌 Takasaki Daruma Festival Daruma dolls are believed to bring good luck. So, most Japanese write their wishes on its left eye and keep it for a year. When a wish is granted, they write it on the right eye and burn the doll at the start of the new year. As you know, public baths aren't a thing in the Philippines. It's even a no-no if you show your nakedness in front of others. My 2019 ended so painful. I was lost with those overwhelming emotions. I got stressed and wasn't in my best self. There were nights that I found it hard to sleep and started feeling anxious and scared. I knew right there and then that I am not in control of myself anymore. That I needed God. I knew I could talk to people about it but I didn't even know where to start. I couldn't even understand myself.  What I did was, I just read God's word and tried to draw strength and wisdom from it. I was just merely reading and mumbling words. But yes it helped. It was those days that I could really feel God holding me and protecting me. I just kept pressing on. Kept holding on to that faith. As what a friend would always say "Gunit lang gyud. Gunit lang" (Just keep holding on. Just hold on.) And that's what I did.  And on the last Sunday of the year, I and my friend attended church.
