READS Batch Prophecy 2014


At the end of a semester, READS Organization holds "Parangal" to recognize academic achievers and graduates of the year. About five years ago I was in it and was chosen to deliver a speech for the Batch Prophecy.

A batch prophecy is like "how and where do you see yourself and others five to ten years from now". Instead of the usual success stories, I made mine fictioned. Please read on.

"After us rebels win the war against capitol and president Alma Coin, I decided to stay at District 12 where I wanted to start a new life of hope and peace with my Peetah Mellark.. Life will never be the same…but I will always be the girl on fire, the mocking jay…  I heard that my fellow tributes, Kim Clavecillas and Achellie Berdin of Districts 10 & 11 accepted the offer of working at the capitol.. under the brilliant leadership of Panem President Razel Tagalog… 

The annual hunger games will still be part of Panem but this year’s game will have new rules…  with the expertise of the new Head Game maker Esmeraldo Ybanez the hunger game will be more likely a race… where there will be one victor, but no tribute shall have to sacrifice his life for his district… 

Meanwhile, in the futuristic dystopian chicago, the five factions have also found their peace by recognizing each strength and duty… the Abnegation or the selfless is now headed by Khen Ken Tangub, the Amity or the peaceful elects Sherlyn Gomez, Candor the honest chooses Anna Marie Marayan to lead them , Dauntless, the brave people is ruled by Jovamar Mendoza and the Erudite or the intelligent people has Louela Cabrillos… 

These factions have decided to recognize a new faction that is represented by people with three attibrutes or the Divergents… the new faction has its unique duty in the government and they are lead by Donna Cariquitan…

Just when I was about to close the door of my humble home, I found a scroll on my doorsteps… Goodness! Gracious! It's from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry…Expecto Patronum it was from Albus Dumbledore, he is inviting me to come and witness the School year’s closing festival… I just remembered the best wizardry student, Annjohn Rama… he was once a miserable boy who lived with the Dursleys.. now he won the battle against evil Lord Voldemort… 

His friends at Hogwarts were Jasmine Lascona a gifted and very hardworking witch of non-magical parentage and Ronald Lucanas a fun-loving member of an ancient, large, happy, but poor wizarding family… Amazing…

I wonder if Professor X and the mutants are also invited…Laniel Reyes who hides as wolverine is the mutant with accelerated healing, enhanced senses his a friend of Brian Barrot or who they call Beast... the mutant with super-strength, agility, and speed oh he was in love with Mystique or Clint Cyrell Casul by birth…the mutant who can shape-shift… 

I feel sorry for Magneto or John Rexie Jover, he could just have reunited with the mutants but he chose to stay away… 

Anyway, I will visit Townsville next week, I'm excited to see the three lovely cute girls, Hanna Charisse, Vinni Rose and Ma. Roqueza… the powerpuff.. they wanted me to teach them how to make blazing costumes… they’re so cute...

I sat down and leaned my back on the wooden chair… I then turned on the radio… oh my favorite song from my favorite girl group Spice Girls… I'm a 90’s girl so you know I'm a fan… I've seen them once and they are all gorgeous and talented girls… Marvie Sabroso, Malyn Lagria, Regine Gacho, Listel Bulacan, and Veronica Sepada… I love these girls… the shoes I wore during the hunger games have printed photos of them…

Suddenly, I felt a turmoil, I think something’s going on outside, I jumped off the chair and ran out… from a far I see a shadow, horns, wings, it's coming near me… and then i see red lips… oh the most powerful witch who cursed princess Aurora… Crystal Jane Arandia… she just dropped by to say that she has revoked the curse and that I need not to find the true love’s kiss for the princess… 

Speaking of true love, the sisters of the Kingdom of Arendelle Lyndie Ngua (the ice princess) and Carl Wella Yburan, the bond and love for each other truly amaze me… and I just want to hug their talking snowman, Olaf… Their kingdom has found its peace through the sisters…


I walked back home and to my surprise in front of my door stood Phineas and Ferb… they’re looking for their antagonist sister, Merry Ann Sefuentes I just told them to look for her at USJR Basak, I think she’s there….

I stepped inside the house and climbed up to my room… How peaceful life has been… I sat down again on the wooden chair and grabbed my copy of the newly published book of Nicholas Sparks… The heartaches of Kimberly Cuambot, Mariz Bayon, Jasmine Bula, Ma. Marsha, Mary Ann and Jona Rose… a whirlwind story  of women, love, courage, and forgiveness… This will be a good read…. 

Apologies for making my prophecy fictioned.. you see, I cannot act prophetic… what I want us all to remember is that, no one can tell what our future will be perhaps our present choices will do… At the end of the day, we will all realize that our purpose in life cannot be equaled by what people expect of us… let’s look up and see the greater plan of that great man up there…Good evening..."

Those names written in bold are my fellow graduates. I don't exactly know where they are now but I hope they are already turning their dreams into reality and refusing a life of fantasy.

Favor! As I was preparing to apply for this job, I felt that certain peace and assurance that this would go well. True enough, I got shortlisted for an interview. But it wasn't only an interview, there was also a written exam and a teaching demo. All happened in one day. Then the waiting starts. Two months to be exact. This position isn't always available. It's uncertain how many teachers the city would accept in a year. And a lot of us would want to get in. The perks and benefits that come along this direct employment are something foreign workers are longing to have. Then they called me and told me I was first on the waitlist. We were all put on the waitlist. I heard there were over a hundred applicants. Less than half got called for an interview. Then about twenty were considered for the position. But Before Summer

Today, I held back my tears as I was watching my student hitting his head while saying, 'Atama ga warui' which literally means 'My head is bad'. The more precise translation would be 'I'm stupid' or 'I'm dumb'. The students were using their school provided tablets to do some listening tasks and yet this particular student was just carelessly tapping the screen, opening random school apps. So I approached him and tried to help him navigate the school portal. And as soon as we could open his digital workbook, I left him so he could find the pages and the audio file on his own. I went around the class to help the other kids. But I would from time to time check on that student at a distance. Then not long, he started hitting his head again and repeatedly telling himself 'I'm dumb'. It was so painful to watch.
