DPE at Cebu Normal University

Though I haven't gotten that energy back yet, I'm feeling gay to tell you of what I've gone through the five-month DPE studies at CNU. I am never the ideal student (hahaha) so forgive me if I can only tell you the things based on what I've experienced.

So, I was enrolled in 6 subjects which is equivalent to 18 units. To graduate or I mean finish the program you need to get a total of 33 units for one school year. But I only wanted to qualify for the Licensure Exam so I only complied with the 18 education units as required by the Department of Education.

My courses were Child and Adolescent Development, Educational Technology, The Teaching Profession, Assessment of Student Learning, Curriculum Development, and Principles of Teaching.

These courses are actually foreign to me (hahahaha) as you know I finished Mass Communication.

FAQs

1. What's the first step?

Hahaha of course, go to CNU (aww) Pray bitaw. Yes, pray. Teaching is not merely a profession, I believe it's a calling. If you aren't called to be the noblest teacher, then be not one. (wink)

2. Unsa man gyud ang first step?

Hihi. Ani ni sha, updated man na ang website sa CNU. Check the admission requirements for DPE. Comply and follow. Ing-ana ra ka simple. Adto dayon sa CTE office. Present your requirements. Wait sa, just make sure moadto ka on the dates nga pwede na mag submit ha.

3. Naay entrance exam?

Naa. Naa. Naa. Mobayad kag 400 pesos. If ni graduate ka with honors (Summa, Magna, Cum) exempted ra ka sa exam but dili sa bayad. hahahaha. Adto lang sa ilahang Testing Center.

4. Madala ra ba'g one day ang enrollment?

Sa akong na experience, NO. Sa akong na remember lahi ang day nga nag submit kos requirements and lahi pud ang day nga nag process na kos akong papers para ma officially enrolled. Basta shodi lang gyud mag angatch-angatch sa dates. Para sure kay tawag lang sa CNU. hihihi.

5. Pilay bayranan? Pwede dili hutdan ug bayad?

For 18 units, I needed to pay 4,975.00. Pwede ra but not at least half I mean 3/4 siguro hihi basta more than half of the full amount lang. (ngangabels kayo kog Math)

6. Unsa'y class schedule?

If kuhaon nimo tanang subjects for this sem, 18 units gyud, Monday-Saturday 6pm-9pm (one subject/day)

7. Unsay references?

Ihatag ra nas inyong prof nig start sa class. But if ganahan na ka makahibaw, wait lang kay ukayon sa nako akong notes ^_^ Bitaw, be resourceful lang gyud daghan rag available references.

8. Unsay dapat nakong i-expect sa class?

Reporting. Reporting. Reporting. Reporting. (1,000,000x) hahahahaha so choy na kayog naa kay laptop.

9. Why diay nag DPE ka?

    whats next if mahuman nka sa 1 sem sa DPE? kailangan bta maka masteral or pwede na mu board? naglibog ko. plan nku mukuha ug DPE but since commerce grad ko. math jud ang akoa kapaingnan. If ever dili ka makapasar sa board gamit pa ba ang imong dpe dimploma na makaaply diri og bisag sa gawas?

      Hello Jenny :) pwede na ka mo take ug LET if 18 units imong kuhaon sa 1st sem. Mao na sha ang gi require sa DepEd. Dili pa ka mahatagan ug diploma unless humanon nimo ang tanan units (33 units man guro to) :) God bless you!

But Before Summer

Today, I held back my tears as I was watching my student hitting his head while saying, 'Atama ga warui' which literally means 'My head is bad'. The more precise translation would be 'I'm stupid' or 'I'm dumb'. The students were using their school provided tablets to do some listening tasks and yet this particular student was just carelessly tapping the screen, opening random school apps. So I approached him and tried to help him navigate the school portal. And as soon as we could open his digital workbook, I left him so he could find the pages and the audio file on his own. I went around the class to help the other kids. But I would from time to time check on that student at a distance. Then not long, he started hitting his head again and repeatedly telling himself 'I'm dumb'. It was so painful to watch.
